Anchorage RV Park, Anchorage, Alaska

Today started out cool and cloudy, but got nicer as we packed up to leave Seward.  It was a 2.5 hour drive to Anchorage where we went back to the same RV park that we stayed in with Matt and Amanda just a week ago.
We spent some more time cleaning the RV and truck and then just spent the afternoon outside reading in our lawn chairs.  We decided that we need a little folding table for our drinks when we sit outside.  It was really nice to take a good break and just refresh ourselves.
The kids and I are giving Rick a sightseeing flight on a small plane for his birthday.  He is busy trying to decide where he wants to go.  There are lots of flights out of Anchorage - most of them on float planes that leave from the seaplane base at Lake Hood.  It is the world's busiest seaplane base with over 190 flights each day.
I have been working on planning the second part of our Alaska trip.  Essentially I think of this as the "trip home"  as we start working our way back from Anchorage.  We will probably drive a little bit of the same road back, but I am trying to take us through mostly new territory.
We talked with some folks in the campground who have just taken the ferry from Skagway to Haines.  They gave us some good tips on riding the ferry.  It would be a fun option for us and not too expensive since the trip is only about 40 minutes.  It could save us several hundred miles of driving, however.
Some other campers, who live in Alaska, told us about driving the highway to Valdez.  They said that it is a very steep down to the the coast and then back up again, but the drive is pretty and the highway is very good.  I think that we can handle the up and downs after our drives in the Yukon!
